‘Beware the barrenness of a busy life’ – Socrates
This quote voices what’s most crucial about our busy lives these days. When I came across this quote today, i felt nothing and ignored it, but after sometime I realised that it has a deeper meaning, which I did not understand. May be again I was too occupied to think about it. Well, today’s world is a busy world. I am busy, you are busy and everyone around us is busy. With their careers, studies, ambitions, goals, and what not!! And to be truthful that is important too. Extremely important. But there’s is something more to life, which we tend to overlook these days amongst this entire hustle bustle. We don’t have time for ourselves. We forget who we really are, what we love and what else please us apart from this daily routine. It’s all set like a clock and we follow that routine. No diversions.
We neglect and forget our hobbies, our passions, our friends, our family, almost everything. We are busy accomplishing our goals and dreams and desires, but sometimes we have no one to celebrate these accomplishments with. We don’t realize when we become so self centered and exclusive. There are people around us, who care, but we are too busy to even look at them. Well, they are not fools and jobless, wanting us to pay attention to them, but our well wishers and friends and relatives. And gradually they go missing and don’t bother about us anymore. Honestly, they didn’t lose anything, but we. We lose something so precious that otherwise would have stayed for life but now, its all gone. Time comes when we gather things, but the damage is already done and that barrenness is created.
We not only overlook other humans but also our own interests and passions. We don’t give them enough importance, ignore and forget them, thinking they will take us nowhere, and we will be left behind. But this is something we should change. We should take out time for ourselves and do things what ‘genuinely’ bring us joy and bliss. It can be anything like meeting our friends and family, travelling, visiting places, reading book, watching movie, painting, baking a cake, playing drums, going for a walk or doing nothing for that matter. Making things happen which were once our life and we treasured them. Time to uncover and explore our real passions and interests. What we are zealous about and love to do, will not only take us to larger heights but will give us reasons to love ourselves, our work and life. No matter what the world thinks!! Ultimately we have to face ourselves and we know the truth. What’s making us and what’s killing us?? And once we come in terms with all this, we will love everything around us.
So lets question yourself, face yourself and come out with the reality. Do what really makes you happy and that barrenness of busy life will be removed forever.
